Shrinky Dinks were one of my absolute favorite things to do as a kid. Then, use a hole punch to create a hole where you want to attach your earring hook or jump ring. I prefer to use colored pencils.
Here are the materials you’ll need to make a shrinky dink footprint keychain:
Once the shrinky dink ornaments have flattened out, pull them from the oven, and allow to cool before you touch them. After about 2 minutes they will unfold and flatten. Trace or draw anything on the circles, using permanent markers. The larger the initial object, the more the shape will be distorted, so I recommend starting with circles that are about 4 inches.
- Can I create custom shapes with Shrinky Dinks?
- No, permanent markers are designed to be fade-resistant and will maintain their color saturation even after shrinking.
- I’m new to this shrinky dink fun, ordered some sheets but can’t wait to get started!
- At first, the Shrinky Dinks will curl up, but then they will flatten back out.
- I gave them about a minute after they flattened out before taking them out of the oven.

The image that you have selected should be at least three inches tall for the pin. – While Shrinky Dinks are primarily used for flat designs, it is possible to create 3D shapes by heating the designs over a mold or form to give them a more dimensional look. – While most colored pencils and markers will work for creating designs on Shrinky Dink paper, it is best to use permanent markers or colored pencils to prevent smudging or fading.

Sanded or Frosted Shrink Plastic (like Shrinky Dink Ruff n Ready) has a rough side that holds colored pencils and even crayon. Regular water based markers will not stick. The white plastic is opaque, but it handles your printer’s color perfectly.
